So Maisie came fitted with an LPG system, something I have been keen to try for decades but never knew how long I woul own a car and would it pay off. I was excited to learn about the LPG sysem and see what benefit it could give me.
Unfortunatly I found out that me nearest fillign station is about 10 miles away so a 20 mile round trip. After doing an economy calucaltion run I was getting about 17MPG on Gas and 20MPG on Super Unledded. The LPG tank can only hodl 38L and after doign the maths on everyting it worked out that the cost of LPG and Super were even given I had to do a round trip to get the LPG… Shame.
At first I knew very little about the system, it was a carb fogging OMVL R90, with an AEB 722A control switch . I did not know how it operated and could not undersdtand the manaual. The Previous owner had run her out of LPG so I was struggling froom the offset. Fortunatly the http://www.club8090.co.uk forum is great and the guys told me how to chage from petrol to gas and back. With it in petrol mode ( fart right led lit ) you press the button and it cuts the fuel supply to the carb and display goes out, after a mile or so the fuel will run out and as the engine dies you switch to gas with another button presss and the gas guage left to right lights up. To get back to petrol you press the button once more and the gas is cut, the van looses power whil fule is re-delivered to the carb.. Once I worked this out it became quite easy.
Running on LPG is better then Petrol, there is no need for cold weather enrichment so no need for the CHOKE and she will drive prety much from startup with no warmup time in cold weather. It’s smoother I think than on petrol too.
I am mixing my use, so I start and pootle round town on gas, but on a run will switch to petrol to conseve the LPG. Not sure how long LPG will be viable though.
